Brief description

The Central Bohemian Research Library in Kladno is a regional library providing public library and information services in the sense of Act No. 275/2001 Coll., as amended by Act No. 1/2005 Coll., on Libraries and the Conditions for Operating Library and Information Services (Libraries Act). Its founder is the Central Bohemian Regional Authority.

Library holdings

The Central Bohemian Research Library in Kladno creates universal library holdings. It permanently holds a conservation collection and a historical collection. The universal collection includes a special collection of regional documents, i.e. documents relating to the Central Bohemian Region.

Collaboration with libraries

The Central Bohemian Research Library in Kladno

• collaborates with the National Library of the Czech Republic and other libraries on the creation of a Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic, a cumulative database of articles in Czech newspapers, journals and anthologies and a file of national authorities
• provides access to its catalogue and databases at its Uniform Information Gateway, and by means of the Z39.50 protocol it provides entries from them to other libraries with various library systems
• is a member of the Association of Libraries of the Czech Republic
• is the publisher of Čtenář, the nationwide monthly for libraries
• is the regional centre for interlibrary services
• acts as a coordination and consultation centre for libraries in the Central Bohemian Region, collaborates with them over various professional activities and ensures performance of regional functions as set out by the Libraries Act. A separate page (For Libraries) deals with this issue.
